Throughout, “Sonnet 116: Let me not to the marriage of true minds” by Shakespeare and “To My Dear and Loving Husband” by Anne Bradstreet, the underlying theme is love. The song that captures both poems is Whitney’s Houston “Saving All My Love To You”.Whitney Houston and the authors clearly want to illustrate to their listeners/readers that love is the only thing to matter because it’s a commitment to each other no matter what arouses.  Love is an occurrence that happens naturally. Lines from Whitney Houston's masterpiece ("Saving All My Love To You" such as, "So I'm saving all my love for you"...."Gonna get that old feeling when you walk through that door".... "We'll be making love the whole night through". All these examples show the power of what love has to a person's soul, emotions,  and appearance. Houston's lines can resemble both poems very similarly. For instance, "Love's not Time's fool, though rosy li...

Reflection

As I learned throughout the semester, writing is something you can learn and adapt from. It should be a process of hard work, dedication, and creativity. The flow of emotions that you want to describe should be implanted with writing. My writing has developed into me being a more effective thinker in my writing and also in life. During this semester, I felt this class was one of my favorites. The class was able to describe their opinions on anything learned about or talked about in class. The ideologies of happiness, drama, death, sadness, were very pivotal points in describing what English 102 with Professor Brady are. So, without this class and professor, I think I wouldn’t be a great listener and writer. Hopefully in five years, I’ve developed my craft of writing which can be used in my work field. And as a thinker, hopefully I have an open mind to things which will help me be successful.

Entrapment a Reality or an Illusion?                    The definition of Entrapment is, the state of being caught in or as in a trap. The two stories that exemplify this is “The Story of an Hour” and “The Storm” both written by Kate Chopin.  The common thread in each story is that women are feeling trapped in their own, individual marriage. This theme can relate to many arguments regarding our First Lady Melania Trump. According to CNN and other media sources, her entrapment in her marriage is clearly obvious. This creates a battle between man vs. self conflict in facing the reality of entrapment in the situation or pretending to be in an illusion that entrapment barely exists.                 As discussed before, entrapment is used in many ways. A story that uses entrapment effectively is “The Story of an H...

As we decipher Dr, King message of that “Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.” The meaning clearly represents that “Freedom” is taken rather than received. Dr, King represented freedom and rights for the oppressed during the 1960s. A word that describes what Dr. King and the activists during the 60’s is “Egalitarianism”. The definition is social equality for all without persecution involved with it. In some circumstances though, this is not sustainable for everyone to handle such as an oppressor. An oppressor, a person that tyrannizes others, because their feel it’s right. For a majority of time it has been oppressor vs. oppressed for many different reasons but, it has always been for something important. Both Dr. King and “Egalitarianism” both relate to the story called “A White Women Of Color” by Julia Alvarez. Alvarez’s piece depicts how a person’s skin color have such an effect on their social status between light-skinned and da...

As Albert Einstein once said, “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one”. In “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams, Stella and Blanche are persistent with their illusions about their life being great while, in reality their poor, alone, and depressed. On Pg.1232 Stella states, “I couldn’t go on believing her story and live with Stanley”. Stella’s stubbornness of not realizing her sister’s actions proves, Stella only cares about herself and her relationship with Stanley. Stella’s repetitive ideology (which is a fantasy) consistently show her persuading herself that Stanley is a great husband and he would never do anything to hurt her. Clearly, she tries to hide his mistakes and doesn’t think anything of them. Overall, this proves women are complacence sometimes in the situations that they’re currently in whether, if it’s good or bad. Psychological, humans try to envision a “Dream Scenario” and will try to do the best of their abilities to achieve it so othe...

Throughout the play Antigone by Sophocles, Antigone, the protagonist, is characterized as brave, valiant, and heroic who fights for what is in her mind “right”. On the contrary, Creon, the antagonist/ Antigone’s uncle, believes nobody but himself and feels that the death of Polyneices (whom he killed in a fight for control of Thebes) should not be mourned about. All over, Thebes (Capital City State) is a state of flux and the next move is crucial for the success of the nation which is in the hands of Creon. While this is happening, Antigone believes that her dead brother Polyneices deserves the proper burial ritual. This results in her going behind Creon’s back and performing the GBR (Greek Burial Rites). The three rites are prepping the body, place coins on the lips and eyes, and to believe in the afterlife for the individual. Antigone proves that this is necessary and also to “shout it out” to all to know all according to Pg. 99. The quote “shout it out” is a very pivotal moment in t...
